Honeycomb/Cellular Shades

There is no difference, the names are interchangeable. These accordion-style shades are constructed from soft fabrics. The cells form a honeycomb design, hence the name. Hunter Douglas developed the honeycomb blind with the Duette Honeycombs and has trademarked that name. Other brands tend to use the term cellular shades.

Honeycomb blinds are highly versatile and come with a number of options including continuous cord loop for smooth operation of large or heavy shades; top-down/bottom-up which, as the name suggests, allows you to open the shade from the top down or from the bottom up; cordless lift which allows you to effortlessly raise and lower your shades; and radio frequency controlled remote operation.

Regular dusting and occasional vacuuming will keep your shades looking new. Use a dry feather duster, soft cloth or soft brush on your vacuum cleaner. Spot clean with a damp cloth. Several products can be immersed in a bath tub full of water. Before cleaning your shades, refer to the product specifications provided for cleaning instructions.

Cell sizes from 3/8" up to 9/16" are generally considered small. Choose a smaller cell size for smaller windows, french doors, or shallow windows. Larger cells tend to look awkward and out of place.

Double cell honeycombs typically provides the highest level of wintertime insulation and energy efficiency in addition to increased sound absorption.

Cell sizes from 3/4" up to 1-1/4" are generally considered large. Chose shades with cells in this range to scale to large windows. The larger cell gives a cleaner appearance.
